Self-Reflection Questions for Aligned Goal Setting in the New Year

Dear Freedom Achiever,

How often do you block time off on your calendar so you can review the past few days, weeks, or months?

Most people don’t take this important step towards living well-designed lives because they get too caught up in the busyness of their careers/running their businesses, and other obligations but the benefits of consistently scheduling quiet moments to self-reflect are transformative in many different areas of our lives – including goal setting!

A study by researchers Giada Di Stefano, Francesca Gino, Gary Pisano, and Bradley Staats found that call centre employees who spent 15 minutes reflecting on what they learned during the workday performed 23% better after 10 days than those who skipped out on reflection. In a similar study of commuters in the UK, results showed that those who used their commute to think about and plan their day were happier, more productive, and more satisfied overall than those who did not.

"To achieve happiness, I advocate four major principles. The principles of love, wisdom, self-reflection, and progress."
- Ryuho Okawa.

How can Self-Reflection help you set your New Year Goals?

Self-reflection can help you identify what went well and what didn’t go well, which will give you a better understanding of your successes and areas of improvement. This process will give you useful information to help you plan for the future by setting new goals.

"Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful." - Margaret J. Wheatley

  2. What technology tools did you use last year and how did this improve your performance?
  3. How did you stay updated with what was trending in your area of expertise?
